Matt, do you use a dovetail or straight mortise joint? So, instead of shaping the heel, you just put the wedge into the pocket? I'm sorry if my questions sound inane, I'm just trying to visualize how you get tight joint at the heel using a shim. |

Joe, I may be wrong but I think Matt is using the wedge to adjust the body/neck angle buy putting it between neck and the jig while he makes the cut. |

Shim should work fine, assuming everything you build will be dead-square from here on.... Better measure before you cut the next dozen, though. Variations, happen. Graig, my den/office has a wall plastered with these neck shims, too. I was going to tear them down, but it's really handy for wedging notes and phone numbers under <g> |

well I dont have time right now for a pictorial. but yes I do use dovetails and the shingle goes under the neck when it is clamped in the tenon jig. you can adjust the back set simply by sliding the shim up or down. i use a protractor to check the set angle before i cut...so dont be so horrified! Craig, cool man... I know where to get some more shims when I need `em. Nailed to your house did you say?
